Seven Important Monuments of Kathmandu Valley

Pashupatinath Temple

It is a holy place of Hindu people. The Pasupati area includes the temple of Pasupati, Gaurighat, Deupatan, Jaya Bageshori, Kutumbahal, Gaushala, Pingan Nath and Sleshmantak forest. There are about 492 temples, Chaityas, Satals etc. Temples are constructed in various style. There are about one thousand Shivalingas in the Pasupati area. The Pasupati area developments Trust has been established to preserve and promote this area. The Pasupatinath temple listed in UNESCO World Heritage site.

Hanumandhoka Darbar Square

It is located at the heart of Kathmandu city. The Malla King rule over Kathmandu from this place. After the conquest of the Kathmandu valley, King Prithvi Narayan Shah started to rule from here and it become the capital of unified Nepal. It is said that Partap Malla created the statue of Hanuman in this place and it was named Hanumandhoka. Beside Hanumandhoka, Basantapur place, Taleju Temple, Musuem, House of Kumari, Kasthamandap, a Kettleddrum etc are the ancient heritages located here. The massive earthquake of 25 April 2015 caused damage in many heritages of this area.

Bouddhanath Mahachaitya

Mahachaitya, The biggest stupa in south Asia, lies about 7km east from centre Kathmandu and Near by Tribhuban international airport. It is one of the oldest stupa in the country. It is belived that this stupa was constructed in around 5th century. It is very famous for religious and cultural tourism. There are many other Buddhist Monastery in the area.

Patan Darbar Square

It was the place of Malla King during medieval Nepal. It is located in Lalitpur district. Krishna Temple with 21 golden pinnacles is the master piece of Malla art and architecture. Beside this, There are Bhimsen temple, Bishwanath temple, Jagat Narayan temple, statue of Yog Narendra Malla, Mahabuddha, Kumbheshor Mahadev, Temple of rato Machhindranath etc. The massive earthquake of 25 April 2015 caused damage in many heritages of this area.

Bhaktapur Darbar Square

It was the place of Malla King, located at Bhaktapur district. Bhaktapur darbar square famous for 55 window place, Nyathapola temple, A statue of King Bhupatindra Malla, Bhaktapur museum, Art gallery, Golden gate, Datatraya temples etc are the mind blowing artistic features of the Bhaktapur.

Changunarayan temple

It is the oldest temple of Kathmandu valley which is located in Bhaktapur district. It was build during the time of Lichchhavi King Mandev in 5th century. The temple is built in pagoda style. There are several high class models of stone inscriptions, stones, wood and metallic arts. It is one of the four Narayan believed of Kathmandu valley.

Swyambhunath Stupa

The Stupa of Swyambhunath, situated on the top of a hill in Kathmandu, is one of the most popular holy place and instantly recognizable symbol of religious tolerance as there is the temple of Hindu goddess Saraswati. There are other stupa and idols also. Recently, the biggest statue of Buddha has been constructed near Swyambhunath stupa.
