Makalu Trekking

The Makalu trekking region lies in Fareast of Kathmandu valley which is 830 sq. km in an area. It is known as the Makalu Barun conservation area bordered in the west by Sankhuwasabha district and Arun River in the east, the Nepal China border in the north, and the sauna danda to the south. This conservation is Nepal’s only protected area with a strict nature area reserve. Stepping up the slopes are a series of vegetation zones starting with tropical sal forest below 1000m elevation. Subtropical nettle wood, cast an oasis forest at 1000m to 2000m, fir, birch, rhododendron forest in the sub-alpine 3000m to 4000m and the herbs, grass, and rhododendron, juniper shrubs in the alpine pastures 4000m to 5000m.
