About Trip

Of all the treks in Nepal, the Everest Three High Passes Trek is ranked among the most challenging. It is an epic adventure of ascending and descending some of the highest mountain passes in the world.  The passes include Renjo La (5360m), Cho La (5368m) and Kongma La (5330m).Though we will have a visit to the Everest Base Camp, none of the passes previously mentioned are found on the Everest Base Camp Trek, so we will have some highly cherished solitude during much of the trek. In addition to undertaking the three high passes, you will also climb three peaks: GokyoRi (5360m) Kala Pattar (5540m), and ChukkungRi (5550m).  This package is for seasoned trekkers, adventure-seekers, and beginners who have strong determination and burning desire to explore the best of the Khumbu region.

After an exhilarating flight to the Tenzing& Hillary Airport, the Everest Three Pass Trek begins. We carry on, passing through Sherpa villages and weaving between farming fields above the DudhKoshi River. In Jorsalle, we enter Sagarmatha National Park and get our permits checked. We spend an extra day in Namche Bazaar, the most popular spot in the acclimatize, shop, and swap stories with other trekkers who are making their way down the mountain.  Next stop is Khumjung village, where we learn more about the Sherpa culture and, at the monastery, get to see the alleged scalp of a Yeti.

After Thame, a village known for its centuries-old monastery, wearelead to the first Himalayan pass of the trek – Renjo La (5360m).  Upon descending, we land in the dazzling Gokyo Valley. To acclimatize, we hike up Gokyo Ri and are blown away by the views of lakes, glaciers, icefalls and white peaks – Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu and others. Next up, the Cho La Pass (5330m), known as the most technical among the three passes. The trail is steep and slippery, which makes it a little more challenging, but also a little more fun. You may need to use the climbing equipment, like crampons (which we will provide). After Everest Base Camp (5364m), and Kala Patthar (5550m), you trek down to Lobuche and finally cross the highest pass - Khongma La (5535m).  We make our descent back to Lukla and say farewell to the majestic Khumbu region.

It is possible to do the Everest Three Pass Trek any time of the year, but Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) will give you the best weather.  In the Spring, rhododendrons are blooming and the colours are more vibrant, while during Autumn, the skies tend to be clearer. The Everest Three Pass Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Shikhar Adventure arranges the trek with complete management. Please, feel free to contact us for more detailed information.
