About Trip

Our Gokyo Valley Trek leads you into the magical landscapes of the Khumbu region, land of the legendary Sherpa ethnic group.  In taking on this trek, you bring yourself to some of the most immaculate sights in Nepal. The path takes you into the Gokyo Valley, one of the highest settlements in the Nepal.  You’ll see four of the top 10 tallest peaks in the world: Mount Everest (8848m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8516m), and Makalu (8481m).  Seeing these peaks from Gokyo Ri will take your breathe away. Before Gokyo Ri, though, you’ll spend time in the majestic Gokyo Valley. Here, you’llbe blown away by the immaculate Ngozumpa Glacier (the longest glacier in Nepal), massive Himalayan peaks, and the shimmering Gokyo Lakes. The alpine paradise of Gokyo Valley is completely unique, unlike anywhere else in the world.

The trek to Gokyo Valley, partly aligned with the Everest Base Camp Trek, follows a rugged trail, that treats trekkerswith constant exposure to pristine, snow-covered mountains. We embark on the Gokyo Valley Trek after a short, scenic flight from Lukla, the gateway of Everest region trekking. The trail goes through Phakding to Namche Bazaar, a hub for tourism and trekking, as most people spend an extra day here for acclimatization. A couple day later, we reach Gokyo Valley. The emerald green lakes near Ngozumpa Glacierare out of this world!  They are considered sacred by both Buddhists and Hindus.  During the Janai Purnima festival in August, some 500 people bathe in the enchanted waters. The hike up to the Gokyo Ri (5360m) offers stunning panorama of the Everest Himalayan range, especially amazing if you can make it for the sunrise. It is not just the natural beauty that makes this trek so special. Throughout, you will be able to see the Tibetan Buddhist lifestyle of the local Sherpas. Buddhist monasteries, chhortens are scattered throughout the trail. From Gokyo Ri, the trailwe retrace our steps back down to Lukla and head back to Kathmandu.

It is possible to do the Gokyo Valley Trek any time of the year, but Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) will give you the best weather.  In the Spring, rhododendrons are blooming and the colours are more vibrant, while during Autumn, the skies tend to be clearer. The Gokyo Valley Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Shikhar Adventure arranges the trek with complete management. Please, feel free to contact us for more detailed information.
