About Trip

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the go-to trek if you are limited on time, or if you don’t have the desire to hike high into the mountains.  You’ll still get the amazing mountain views that you get on the longer treks, but they won’t be as up-close on the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. It is a short, but very sweet trek that is suitable for trekkers of all ages and experience levels.  Poon Hill (3210 meters) is the ultimate destination of this trek, and it is one of the most popular view points in the Himalayas. The goal is to reach Poon Hill to view the sunrise.  Here, you’ll see a panorama of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Manaslu mountain ranges. If you can manage to take the trek during the spring, bright, blooming rhododendron trees surround the trail. Rhododendrons are the national flower of Nepal, and add much beauty to the already stunning hike.

We begin the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek in Nayapul after a short, scenic drive from Pokhara. The fresh air, flowing streams, and charming villages fill us with excitement and energy. From here,we move through a massive rhododendron forest, full of warm colors. We have some what of a strenuous climb to Ghorepani, but the cool breeze of the Himalayan foothills refreshes and rejuvenates us.  The hike up to Poon Hill begins from Ghorepani early in the morning. Of course, it isn’t required to wake up early, but to see the orange and red colors glimmering off the mountains is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  The viewpoint offers jaw-dropping views of Annapurna (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m), Machhapucchre (6993m), Dhaulagiri (8167m), Manaslu (8156m) and the surrounding peaks. Another highlight of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is learning about the rich Gurung culture, specifically in Ghandruk.  Itis a typical village with traditional Gurung culture and hospitality. The trek ends after a descent to Nayapul and a drive to Pokhara. Whether you’re a seasoned trekker or a first-timer, you’ll be amazed by the beauty of this trek!

Trekking is possible throughout the year, but Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) provide the best weather.  During the Spring, there is a bit more color and the rhododendrons are blooming, and in the Autumn months, the skies are generally clearer.  The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek requires fitness and acclimatization to avoid acute mountain sickness. Shikhar Adventure arranges the trek with complete management. Please, feel free to contact us for more detailed information.
